By 2060 the population of Hungary (9.9 million today) might fall by 2 million, every third Hungarian might be over 65 and the number of childless families might steeply rise. In 1990 József Antall could consider himself, spiritually at least, prime minister of 15 million Hungarians but today Viktor Orbán can only refer to between 12 to 13 million. There are eight states in the Carpathian Basin of 285 000 sq km with a total population of 26 million.
